Floor & Deck Treatments
DIRT & GRASS:
The dirt was a 2-color scumble done with a split roller over a black primer base. I then went back in with a spatter of the highlight and lowlight over everything. The grass was done with the same technique, and everything got seal coat of matte Behr Polyurethane.
FLOORBOARDS:
After the MDF was primed, it was based in a near-black blue-green. The blue floorboards were laid in with a 7" lay-in brush using the long sides of the MDF as a guide. I varied the texture of each board slightly by using more or less paint, and used the same technique for the highlights on select floorboards. The rust-orange streaks were a thinner wash. I then spattered the highlight and lowlight across the surface and sealed everything with a 50/50 satin/dull flat acrylic urethane finish.

Rust & Grain Treatments
|
The woodgrain and rusted steel pieces used the same base colors in order to promote a sense of unity throughout the set. For the woodgrain, I streaked the burnt umber base with the rust orange followed by a darkened raw umber on the top.
For the rusted steel, I sponged a light grey circled by rust orange and spattered the darkened raw umber across the top. |
